Logan County Criminal History Checks
There is no single screen for all Logan County criminal records. Start with the narrow fact you need. The detention center's Current Inmates list answers a present-custody question. The Logan Circuit Court Clerk supplies the official District or Circuit file. An AOC report widens the view to indexed Kentucky court activity, while KOOL covers Kentucky Department of Corrections incarceration and supervision. Federal cases and custody require separate federal systems.
Gather a full legal name, date of birth, prior names or aliases, and an approximate event date before searching. A case number, incident number, indictment number, or DOC identifier is even better. Similar names can produce the wrong match, and an old District preliminary file may have a different number from a later Circuit indictment.
- Check the official Logan County current-inmate list when present custody is the first question. Record the charge label, bond, and next court date, but do not treat them as final.
- Call the Logan Circuit Court Clerk at 270-726-2424. Press 2 for District matters or 3 for Circuit matters, and ask staff to check both when the stage is not known.
- Request the docket and the exact signed order that states the result. Older files may need case and file-locator numbers from the clerk.
- Order the AOC statewide report when Kentucky court activity beyond Logan County matters. Use KOOL only when state incarceration, probation, or parole is relevant.
- Verify the key result with the office that created it. A live list, index, and signed judgment have different scopes and update times.
The main access channels can be matched before any order is placed.
| Question | Official channel | Main limit |
|---|---|---|
| In the county jail now? | Logan Current Inmates | Current list, not a historic arrest archive |
| What happened in court? | District or Circuit clerk file | May require a copy request or archive locator |
| What Kentucky court cases are indexed? | AOC FastCheck or One-Time Request | Not an official court record |
| In prison or under state supervision? | Kentucky Online Offender Lookup | Not every arrest or county case appears |
Logan County Records, Three Custodians
Three offices sit within Logan County's compact Russellville justice area, yet each keeps a different part of a criminal history. The Court of Justice at 329 W. Fourth Street holds District and Circuit case files. The detention center at 304 W. Third Street creates booking and custody entries. County and sheriff functions route through their own offices, including the Historic Courthouse area. A short walk does not merge those records or their request rules.
The official Logan County agency directory shows the distinct phone routes for these public offices.
The directory is useful for reaching the right Logan County custodian, while the record itself still must come from the clerk, jail, sheriff, or other creating agency.
Official Background Checks in Kentucky
The Kentucky Court of Justice Administrative Office of the Courts offers the main public name-based statewide report. FastCheck serves registered users, and One-Time Request sends an individual result by mail. The report may include Kentucky traffic and misdemeanor activity for at least five years and felony activity back to 1978. It omits federal records, confidential case types, juvenile matters, expunged cases, and purged cases. When a request about another person returns a record, AOC notifies that person and sends a copy.
The AOC background-check page shows the two order channels and their stated scope.
That screen leads to a Kentucky court-data report, not a fingerprint-supported KSP or FBI identity-history file.
For a review of one's own federal Identity History Summary, fingerprints are required. No official Logan County capture site was confirmed in the research, so a person should verify an approved capture route with KSP or the FBI rather than rely on a business directory. The FBI electronic order process is the direct self-review channel.
The fingerprint result answers an identity-history question; it does not provide a certified Logan County judgment or replace the clerk's docket.
Logan County AOC Record Limits
AOC marks its report "Not an Official Court Record." That warning matters when a Logan County criminal record has an amended charge, missing disposition, or clerk memo. AOC returns fields such as county, case number, original and amended charge, charge date, disposition, disposition date, and a memo when needed. The signed order in Mary Orange Burkeen's clerk office remains the source for the court's actual ruling.
A no-result report is not proof that no Logan County event occurred. The name may be spelled another way, the matter may be federal, confidential, expunged, purged, too new to appear, or outside Kentucky. An AOC accuracy concern can begin at 800-928-6381, but the Logan County clerk may have to correct the source court entry. AOC also processes requests in received order and does not sell faster placement.
Note: Save the search date and identifiers so the Logan County clerk can trace the exact record that needs review.
Kinds of Criminal Records
A Logan County justice event can create several records at once. Each Logan County product reflects a different stage and custodian. The Logan County arrest search follows the booking and report channels in depth, while the court file supplies the later prosecution result.
- Incident and arrest reports come from the sheriff or police agency that investigated and made the arrest.
- Booking records come from Logan County Detention Center and describe intake, charge labels, bond, and current custody.
- District and Circuit files contain complaints, pleas, motions, orders, judgments, and sentence entries.
- Repository and AOC reports organize reported state identification history or indexed Kentucky court activity.
- Supervision and registry records come from KDOC, the Kentucky Parole Board, or the KSP Sex Offender Registry under their own rules.
A warrant is another distinct record. It is a judge's command, not a conviction. Logan County has no verified countywide public warrant portal, so the safe route is the known case docket, the issuing court or agency, or counsel when resolving one's own possible warrant.
Logan County Booking Record Flow
The Logan County chain is easy to picture: agency report → Third Street booking → District filing → Circuit indictment when applicable → final disposition → AOC and qualifying KSP updates. These steps do not always post at the same time. A booking charge may be amended or dismissed, and release from jail does not resolve guilt.
The Logan County jail may also hold records that have little to do with the court judgment. Logan County documents postcard-only incoming mail, Friday commissary, VINE release notices, property deadlines, and rehabilitation programs. Its 2025 procurement work shows that the inmate communications system is an operational record of the detention center, not a criminal-case filing.
The official inmate communications procurement shows that separate county function.
The bid record explains how the facility manages communication services, while the booking list and court file answer different questions about a named case.
Logan County Criminal Records: What They Contain
Logan County record contents depend on the source. A court file is case-centered, while a fingerprint repository record is person-centered. The Logan County clerk file can tie the case number to charges, hearings, pleas, motions, a judgment, financial entries, and sentence terms. Jail information focuses on intake and custody. KOOL organizes state correctional and supervision facts around a person and conviction.
| Name & identifiers | Legal name, aliases when reported, case number, PID or DOC number, and other source-specific identifiers. |
|---|---|
| Arrest & booking | Intake record, current charge label, bond, court date, and custody status when publicly shown. |
| Charges & statutes | Original and amended charge, KRS citation, offense level, and indictment or count details. |
| Disposition | Dismissal, acquittal, plea, conviction, or other court outcome with a disposition date. |
| Sentence | Confinement, probation, fines, costs, restitution, and related judgment terms when public. |
| Custody & supervision | Current facility or office, supervision status, and projected or eligibility dates where applicable. |
Terms that look alike can point to very different stages.
- District F file
- A preliminary felony matter before any grand-jury indictment transfers the prosecution to Circuit Court.
- Circuit CR file
- The felony indictment case with its own number, docket, judgment, and sentence record.
- Disposition
- The court's outcome for a charge, which is not the same as a pending case status.
- Expungement
- A legal process that removes qualifying records; release or dismissal alone does not always erase every record.
Logan County KOOL Record Scope
Kentucky Online Offender Lookup can show people in KDOC custody or under probation or parole supervision. Searchers can use names, aliases, DOC or PID numbers, offender type, status, institution or office, Logan as county of supervision, Logan as conviction county, indictment number, offense, dates, and other filters. Those two county fields answer different questions. County of supervision describes a present relationship; conviction county identifies where the judgment arose.
KOOL is not a Logan County arrest log. A person booked locally may never enter KDOC custody or supervision. Recent data less than 120 days old may not be final, and some profiles flag incomplete offense information. Match the indictment number and conviction county to the signed Logan Circuit judgment, then contact the displayed facility or supervision office when a new entry is still provisional.
Probation is run by the Kentucky Department of Corrections Division of Probation and Parole, not by a county department. The Kentucky Parole Board makes parole decisions. A hearing date or eligibility date does not itself prove release.
Kentucky Public Access Laws
The Kentucky Open Records Act generally governs nonjudicial Logan County agency records. Logan County court case files follow judiciary procedures and begin with the clerk that heard the matter. An open-records request should name the event date, place, agency, report number if known, and desired format. Active investigations, juvenile or confidential material, protected personal facts, and safety-sensitive details may be withheld or redacted. A requester can ask for the releasable part and the legal basis for any denial.
Key Statutes:
KRS 61.872 sets the basic right and method for inspecting public agency records.
KRS 61.878 lists exemptions that can limit access or require redaction.
KRS 17.150 governs access to certain criminal-justice and law-enforcement information.
KRS 431.073 controls eligible felony vacatur and expungement.
The sheriff's request route is for sheriff-created reports. Jail booking material belongs with the detention center, and the Logan County court case lookup must begin with the clerk rather than a county executive-office request.
Logan County Warrant Record Routes
No official countywide public Logan County warrant search was located. A known case docket may show issuance, service, recall, or a later court date, but a current-inmate result cannot prove that no unserved warrant exists. New, sealed, served, or recalled warrants may not match a public list even when one is available elsewhere.
For one's own possible warrant, use the agency or court tied to the known case and consider counsel before appearing at a jail based on an online assumption. Ask the clerk for the warrant or capias event, the underlying case number, issue date, status, and next proceeding. A warrant records authority to arrest or search. It does not establish guilt.
Police and sheriff reports follow a similar custodian rule. A Russellville, Auburn, or Adairville arrest may be booked at the county jail, yet the investigating city agency keeps its own narrative. Request the report from its creator with a narrow date range, location, and incident number.
Restricted, Sealed & Expunged Records
Kentucky expungement starts with a $40 certification. An online requester registers with a verified email, pays by card, downloads the completed packet, and then files the proper petition with the Circuit Court Clerk in the county of the original charge. A mail requester uses AOC-RU-009 with a check or money order payable to the Kentucky State Treasurer. A Logan County filing goes to the clerk at 329 W. Fourth Street after certification.
Dismissed-with-prejudice or acquitted nontraffic cases on or after July 15, 2020 are automatically expunged after 30 days unless the defendant objects within that period. Other records require the correct statutory path. Eligible felony relief has a $300 total court fee, with $50 due at filing and $250 if granted; the separate certification is still $40. A judge, not KSP or AOC, decides the petition.
The documented Logan County record costs should be kept distinct.
| Item | Amount or rule |
|---|---|
| Expungement certification | $40 |
| Eligible felony filing portion | $50, nonrefundable |
| Balance after felony relief is granted | $250; completion waits for full payment |
| AOC card processing | 2.25% or $2.50, whichever is greater |
| Local copy or certification fees | Not stated in the inspected official material; ask the custodian |
Confidential juvenile, mental-health, and protected domestic-violence matters do not become public merely because related adult criminal records can be inspected. A source correction and a lawful expungement are also different: an indexing error goes to the jail, AOC, or clerk that holds it, while a valid but eligible case needs the court process.
Logan County Federal Record Layer
Logan County lies in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Kentucky. Federal indictments, dockets, judgments, and custody are not part of the local clerk file or AOC report. PACER covers the federal court docket. The Bureau of Prisons locator answers a federal custody question. Appeals go through the Sixth Circuit, while an FBI identity-history self-review is yet another separate product.
The official PACER service is the source for federal case access.
PACER may show the federal prosecution, but it does not tell whether someone is now in a county jail or state correctional program.
For present or past federal custody, use the Bureau of Prisons Inmate Locator.
The locator is a custody index, not the underlying indictment, plea, judgment, or Logan County criminal record.
Logan County Record Results in Context
One Logan County result should not be stretched beyond its source. The Logan County jail's live list confirms current custody, bond, charge, and court-date facts shown at that moment. It does not prove an old arrest did not occur. AOC reflects indexed Kentucky court activity and excludes several record classes. KOOL focuses on KDOC incarceration and supervision. Registry data exists for statutory notification, not as a full criminal-history file.
Logan County's 2025 dispatch figures illustrate the same caution. Fiscal Court minutes reported 42,131 ECC calls and 17,570 Sheriff Department responses. Those are workload counts, not crime, arrest, or conviction totals. Many calls are noncriminal, and several calls can relate to one event. The minutes also reported that 38% of state inmates then housed at the jail were local residents, which describes jail composition at that time rather than a county crime rate.
When a decisive fact matters, record the query date and key identifiers, then verify it with the originating office. This avoids turning a provisional status, old charge, or broad operational number into a claim it cannot support.
City-by-City Criminal Records in Logan County
Russellville, Auburn, and Adairville can each create city police reports, but Kentucky criminal prosecutions route through Logan District or Circuit Court rather than a separate broad city criminal database. A city arrest booked at the county detention center remains three records: the city or sheriff report, the county booking, and the state-court case. The city cards follow the Census-ranked top three incorporated places.
Russellville Record Check
7,454 estimated residents · County-seat searches can span city police, the county jail, and both Logan courts.
Auburn Record Check
About 1,500 residents · Identify the city report custodian, then use county booking and court channels.
Adairville Record Check
About 800 residents · Its Tennessee-border setting can require separate official searches in both states.
